Scientific Meeting ESCR 2008, Porto/Portugal
Cardiac radiology is evolving into a speciality within radiology with high impact on daily healthcare. European radiology departments with substantial cardiac care have to rely more and more on the quality of our expertise. Continuing developments in the field of cardiovascular medicine rapidly surmount boundaries between a wide variety of specialties. On the one hand a formerly mainly diagnostic speciality such as radiology is dealing more and more with direct patient care. On the other hand formerly mainly clinically orientated specialties such as (paediatric) cardiology and cardiovascular surgery rely more and more on new imaging techniques. Technical and research achievements are implemented in very short time intervals, while new software upgrades and complete new analytic software tools for cardiac applications become available each three months. Those developments emerged in less than 10 years. The number of participants of our annual scientific meetings increased accordingly over the last years, reflecting the participation of a great number of highly involved young radiologists.
After Zurich, Athens and Rome this year we will meet in Porto from 16 - 18 October with a full 3 days programme. We will be hosted by the Department of Radiology, University of Porto and Hospital S. Joao and Professor Isabel Ramos will be our meeting president. It is very positive that again for this meeting we already have an increase of more than 35% in scientific contributions.
For the first time, the ESCR will feature a Young Abstract Presenter Programme (YAPP), which enables a limited number of accepted proffered paper presenters below the age of 35 not only to participate in the congress with the fee waived, but also to have free accommodation. The programme is completely overbooked, but we were able to enlarge the sponsor participation.
Next to the highlighted lectures, the scientific contributions, the EPOS session, the educational sessions and case discussions we started with guideline sessions, which are developed in cooperation with the North American Society of Cardiac Imaging (NASCI). The post-processing programmes in interactive sessions, and special sessions for technicians have been very successful last year and will be extended. This all adds up to a very interesting programme for any participant interested in the field of cardiac radiology.
The meeting location in Porto is excellent selected and supported by the local organizing committee, which did an outstanding job with great enthusiasm. Porto, of course, guarantees a wonderful meeting place and a perfect location for our seventh interdisciplinary and interuniversitary cardiac CT and MR meeting of the ESCR. A special surprise will be offered during the meeting related to the famous wineries and vineyards of the Porto wine region.
